The lockout pushed back the free agency period so when it came to an end shit went down. Now that most of the dust has settled we can take a closer look at how each team fared. Notably, the Iggles signing Nnamdi and Jenkins, McNabb to the Vikings, Sydney Rice's head scratching move to Seattle, the Packers chillin, Barber to the Bears, John Clay a Steeler, etc.
Free agency. What say you?
I loved this free agency period. Normally free agency is like a long drawn out cock tease that last all summer and features 5 billion rumors with only a modest amount of action. This however was a full on blitz of excitement which makes me wish the NFL always did free agency like this (minus the whole lockout part)
ReplyDeleteAs for the moves made by the Bears I'm Cautiously Optimistic. I like the barber pick up b/c A. Chester Taylor was pretty ineffective last year and B. He has a different running style then Forte which could make them good complements. Where as Taylor/forte where almost mirror backs in terms of style.
Roy Williams could turn out nicely for the bears especially considering jay cutler's boner for tall Receivers. He loves martz and played for our WR coach at Texas so it could turn out well.
The pick up I'm really excited for is Amobi Okoye. Okoye is literally loaded with potential and if rod marinelli can work his D-line magic Okoye could end up being the bears best pick up. That being said he was just cut by the Texans, but but his release seemed to have more to do with making room for the defensive players Texas just drafted then his play (which wasn't great but also not terrible.) In any case he is only singed for one year so there isn't much risk with him.
James Jones signing equals 2 of these 5 (DD, Jennings, Jones, Jordy, Finley) lining up against a 4 and 5 Corner on a team when you spread them out... Rodgers 4 MVP
ReplyDeleteThe eagles have gone nuts this free agency period and in my opinion are far and away the winners of this offseason. As of right now they've acquired Nnamdi Asomugha, Cullen Jenkins, Jason Babin, Vince Young, Ryan Harris, Jarrad Page, Akeem Jordan and Dominique Ridgers-Cromartie + a 2nd round pick for Kolb. These contracts are all extremely cap friendly and most can be terminated after this season.
ReplyDeletePlayer Cap charges....
- Asomugha: $10M in 2011, $16M in 2010
- Jenkins: $4M in 2011, $4.65M in 2010
- Young: $4M in 2011, $14.2M in 2010
- Babin: $5.3M in 2011, $1M in 2010 (was on a one-year deal)
- Rodgers-Cromartie: $2.1M in 2011 (has two years left on a rookie deal and will get a new deal)
The Eagles can get out of all the free-agent contracts they brought in after 2011 with virtually no cap charges, except for the Asomugha deal.
The most intriguing thing about these signings are that guys have been turning down starting jobs and more money in order to play for the eagles (i.e. nnamdi, ronnie brown, vy) Alot of these guys have cited the desire to play with mike vick as their reasoning, while others cite andy reid or wanting to win now as their reasoning. Either way this team is very very good. Offensively they have added pieces to one of the most explosive offensive units in the nfl, while defensively they have dramatically improved a unit that was frequently burned in the passing game last year. Does this guarantee them anything? absolutely not, but does it make me more comfortable knowing this is the team that is going out there every sunday? for sure.
What do you think of Casey Matthews starting and desean jackson's contract situation
ReplyDeletei'm not super excited about matthews since he was projected as more of a second tier kind of guy and is never going to be as big/strong/fast as his brother, but from what i've read he's been doing a pretty good job as the mlb in camp. he's been calling the plays and lots of guys are saying he's a good leader in that huddle. We'll have to wait and see how things play out.
ReplyDeleteThe desean situation will get resolved soon hopefully. He has to report to camp soon otherwise he loses a year of service time and will only become a rfa this offseason. the eagles are willing to negotiate but they said they wont do anything without him in camp. dude deserves to be paid since he'll be making less than 1 mill this year and is one of the top 10 receivers in the nfl. they want this to be a nonissue and luckily those good signings still leave them with some money to play with for his contract. how do you think the packers did/ what do they need to do?
I think the Packers did fine because they need to save cap room for extending contracts for players such as raji matthews collins jennings finley Sitton (Finley and Sitton up after this year) and they proved that as long as their secondary and Rodgers are healthy they can beat anyone...
ReplyDeleteThey need to see if Sherrod is the answer at Left Gaurd and if this is Clifton's last year/can he hold up but they seem ready to go and eager to prove themselves since the Eagles are getting all the attention at the moment
So now that the preseason has started and it's confirmed that Tim Tebro is both awesome and terrible at the same time I want to weigh in on the broncos. The team overall is shitty. We added some no names on defense in free agency but our first 3 picks in the draft should start from day 1 so that's pretty exciting. I think Rahim Moore was a steal in the middle of the 2nd round as one of the top safeties on the board. Overall this team should be a little better and hopefully Tebow learns something about running an NFL offense after holding the clipboard for another year. I'm saying over 6 wins for the broncos because everyone is hopping on the raiders bandwagon for their breakout season which means that Al Davis will find a way to screw things up.
ReplyDeletePHILLIP RIVERS IS A MEGA FAGGOT DEUSCHBAG.
AFC West for lyfe!
Packers open tomorrow night with the Browns. Excited to see one drive by the starters then the young guys get some reps. Preseason anything is retarded to watch but it means the season is around the corner which is awesome.
ReplyDeleteTheusch, Lee Evans is a Raven. Good thing the Ravens have sweet looking jerseys...
